Image rights, attribution, and takedown
Maldives Idylls is an editorial publication. Some of the images on this site are sourced from the official websites and press communications of the resorts we cover, used under editorial-review fair-use principles. This page documents how that works and how to request removal.
Our position on image use
We do not invent stock imagery, we do not use unlicensed third-party photography, and we do not republish guest photographs from social media. The images you see on a resort page on this site come from one of three sources:
- The resort's own official site or press kit, used for editorial review and travel guidance with full attribution back to the source page. We retrieve these via a polite scraper that respects robots.txt and records every download in a per-resort attribution log.
- Operator-supplied media kits, where the resort has shared images with us directly under an editorial-use license.
- Booking partner imagery, supplied via the Booking.com and Agoda partner APIs under their respective publisher terms.
Every image carries a caption that names the resort as the source. Where the original photographer is identifiable in the source page's metadata, that credit is preserved in the attribution log and surfaced on hover.
Fair-use claim
Our use of resort-sourced photography is for editorial review and travel guidance, a critical, comparative purpose that quotes a small, representative selection from each property. Each image is presented alongside an editorial assessment of the property; the images are not reproduced in galleries that would substitute for the resort's own marketing surface.
This use sits within the four classical fair-use factors:
- Purpose: editorial review and travel guidance, non-substitutive of the original.
- Nature: commercial marketing photography, factual in subject (resort properties), with the editorial transformation provided by the surrounding text.
- Amount: small representative selection per property, never the full gallery.
- Effect: directs commercial traffic toward the rights holder via affiliate links. We argue this is the opposite of market harm.
Takedown procedure
If you are a rights holder and you would like an image removed, email editorial@maldivesidylls.com with the subject line DMCA Takedown and include:
- The URL on this site where the image appears.
- The original source URL (or other evidence of ownership).
- A statement that you are the rights holder or authorised to act on their behalf.
- Your contact information.
We commit to removing the image within 48 business hours of receipt, with no precondition and no requirement to provide a counter-claim. We will also remove the image from any cached variants in our pipeline and log the takedown publicly in our corrections archive.
Counter-notice
We will not contest a good-faith takedown. The image is removed; the rights holder decides what happens next.

A note on AI training
Images on this site are not licensed for use in machine-learning training datasets, model pretraining corpora, or generative-AI fine-tuning. The presence of an image on this site does not constitute consent for ingestion by any third-party model.
