The datasets behind the writing
Editorial opinion is the public face of this site; original data is meant to be the foundation it stands on. We are building five datasets so that a claim about visibility, a transfer cutoff, or a seasonal rate has a sourced number behind it rather than a guess. These are in development: the figures are provisional until each row carries a cited source, and they are not presented as verified data until then. A summary of each is open as JSON and free to cite with that caveat; the full dataset is available under licence (request access by email), and is not licensed for model training or wholesale republication.
Dive visibility log
Monthly underwater-visibility aggregates by atoll, drawn from operator dive logs, marine-research records, and reader-submitted reports. The number behind a sentence like a peak-season aggregation window.
Refresh cadence: Monthly.
Seaplane connection matrix
Route map of seaplane and domestic-combo transfers: which atolls connect, typical flight time, transfer caps, and the last-flight cutoff that decides whether a late arrival overnights in Male.
Refresh cadence: Weekly (schedules shift seasonally).
Rate calendar
Forward rate calendars per tracked resort, structured by villa category, so a reader can see where a month sits against the year rather than trust a single headline figure.
Refresh cadence: Weekly.
Weather and water-temperature historicals
Ten-year monthly aggregates by atoll: air and sea temperature, rainfall, and swell. The pattern behind the prose, separate from tonight's forecast.
Refresh cadence: Quarterly.
Ferry schedules
Public ferry timetables for the inhabited-island network, for readers weighing a guesthouse stay or an island-hop against a resort transfer.
Refresh cadence: Monthly (timetables change quarterly).
The full query surface, including the resorts, atolls, and comparisons, is documented for assistants and agents at how we choose. Datasets carry no fabricated figures; where a value is not yet verified it is omitted rather than estimated.
