Adaaran Prestige Vadoo
Aitken Spence's Adaaran Prestige: an adults-only premium all-inclusive on Vaadhoo island, South Malé Atoll. 50 all-over-water villas, 18+ only, a 15-minute speedboat from Velana (among the quickest arrivals), the premium tier of the three-tier Adaaran range (Club, Select, Prestige), and a South Malé sister to Adaaran Club Rannalhi.
Adaaran Prestige Vadoo sits on Vaadhoo island in northern South Malé Atoll, opened in 2009 as the premium tier of Aitken Spence's three-tier Adaaran range (Club, then Select, then Prestige). Three things define it. It is strictly adults-only, 18 and over: no family villas, no kids' programme, no children at any age, with the design and dining built around couples and honeymooners. All 50 villas sit over the water, with no beach option by design, so the whole stay is an over-water one in a way the area's mixed-villa resorts can't match. And the 15-minute speedboat from Velana is among the quickest arrivals in the area (alongside Sheraton Full Moon and OBLU XPERIENCE Ailafushi at North Malé; only Kurumba, at 10 minutes, is closer).
Setting
Vaadhoo is a natural island in northern South Malé Atoll, with all 50 villas over the water on the lagoon-side jetty. The house reef off the villa decks carries the daily snorkelling.
The northern position makes it one of the quickest arrivals in the area and puts the South Malé dive sites, and the North Malé channel sites, within boat range; the closeness to Velana is its real selling point.
Critique: with no beach, travellers who want beach days as the shape of the trip aren't the right match; and being close to Velana, it sits near the airport's activity rather than out among the secluded outer islands.
Who it's for
- Couples who want an adults-only premium all-inclusive with an all-over-water island. It's a rare combination nearby: only OBLU SELECT Lobigili at North Malé matches the adults-only, all-over-water setup, and the two differ on operator, plan, and signature restaurant.
- Honeymoon couples who want the quickest arrival at this level. The 15-minute speedboat plus the all-over-water villas mean no transfer day eats into the trip.
- Adaaran regulars who want the premium tier. Pairing Adaaran Club Rannalhi (South Malé, value, 130 family-and-couples villas) with Adaaran Prestige Vadoo (South Malé, premium, 50 adults-only over-water villas) makes a tier comparison easy within one trip.
- Travellers who want a short, reliable transfer. The 15-minute crossing absorbs a late-flight European arrival and supports same-day arrival and departure.
Who it isn't for
- Families with children of any age. The 18+ rule means children aren't accepted; for an Adaaran family all-inclusive, Adaaran Club Rannalhi (value, family-and-couples, in South Malé).
- Travellers who want a beach villa. The island is all over water by design, with no beach option; for beach villas, the wider South Malé resorts.
- Travellers who want the area's ultra-luxury anchors. Adaaran Prestige Vadoo is at the Adaaran premium tier, below the ultra-luxury resorts.
- Travellers who want a big dining line-up. At 50 villas it runs a focused dine-around (three restaurants and two bars) rather than the eight-venue breadth of the largest resorts.
The villas
All 50 villas sit over the water, across Sunrise Water Villa, Sunset Water Villa, Honeymoon Water Villa, and Honeymoon Water Suite types along the Vaadhoo jetty. Sizes vary by category; confirm at booking.
| Villa | Size | Sleeps | Pool |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sunrise Water Villa | 110 m² | 2 | No |
| Sunset Water Villa | 115 m² | 2 | No |
| Honeymoon Water Villa | 125 m² | 2 | No |
| Honeymoon Water Suite | 160 m² | 2 | No |
Food & drink
The Premium All-Inclusive plan runs as a dine-around across three restaurants and two bars, a step up from the value-tier plan at the sister Adaaran Club Rannalhi. Farivalhu is the main venue, international and fusion with ocean views across breakfast to dinner. Kithajima is a standalone Japanese restaurant doing sushi, sashimi, tempura, and teppanyaki with trained Japanese chefs. Kakuni is the barefoot beachfront seafood restaurant, working the day's catch with Sri Lankan spice and international preparations. The Dhoni Bar, built into the hull of a traditional dhoni under a sea-grape canopy, runs all day on the beach; the Kandholi Sky Deck Bar does over-water sunset cocktails.
The Sri Lankan cooking across the dine-around reflects the Aitken Spence kitchen; the wine and cocktails are included at the Prestige level, built around an adults-only, couples crowd.
Honest read on the food: the dine-around across Farivalhu, Kithajima, and Kakuni is genuinely strong for a 50-villa resort, and the standalone Japanese Kithajima is the real distinction at this adults-only level. The largest resorts carry more venues, but few match a standalone Japanese restaurant included at this scale.
Diving and the house reef
The on-property dive operation runs at the premium level, and the northern South Malé position puts Vaadhoo within boat range of the area's dive sites (Kandooma Thila, Vaagali Beyru, Embudhoo Express), with the North Malé channel sites reachable too given the 15-minute run to Velana.
Certification courses run from Open Water through Divemaster; at this adults-only, boutique scale the diving feels small-group and capable rather than a specialist operation at scale.
Honest caveat: for a specialist dive operation, Bandos has the hyperbaric chamber and a PADI 5-star centre; Vaadhoo's strength is being close to the dive sites on an adults-only premium all-inclusive.
Spa and wellness
The on-property spa runs at the Adaaran Prestige level, with massages, facials, body scrubs, and Ayurvedic-influenced treatments in keeping with the Sri Lankan operator.
At 50 villas with an adults-only crowd, spa appointments are genuinely easy to get; with no children or family groups, the peak-season crush is well below the family resorts.
Honest caveat: if wellness is the whole point of the trip, the area's dedicated wellness islands are well ahead.
Activities and the on-island programme
Watersports cover the usual range: stand-up paddleboarding, kayaking, sailing, guided snorkel trips, and the dive programme. With all the villas over water, the water days start from the villa deck rather than the beach.
The adults-only feel keeps the calendar couples-focused: sunset cruises, private-sandbank trips, and wedding and vow-renewal coordination, plus an easy split-stay with the sister Adaaran Club Rannalhi for the value-versus-premium comparison.
Smaller offerings: a dolphin-watching cruise, and a Malé excursion that is genuinely a quick afternoon from here, given the 15-minute crossing, where the area's further-out resorts treat it as a half-day.
Getting there
The standard route from Velana International is a 15-minute speedboat straight to the Vaadhoo jetty.
The speedboat runs on a wide daily schedule, with late-night runs by prior arrangement. At 15 minutes it is among the quickest arrivals in the area (alongside Sheraton Full Moon and OBLU XPERIENCE Ailafushi); only Kurumba, at 10 minutes, is closer to Velana.
Visa: most nationalities receive a 30-day free visa on arrival. The Tourism GST adds 17 percent to the total bill.
Best time to visit
South Malé's seasons follow the standard Maldivian pattern. December through April is the dry season, with the European peak; being adults-only, the resort runs lighter through the school holidays than the family resorts nearby.
May through November carries the southwest monsoon, with more frequent showers; the August Italian and German school holidays bring a second spike.
Contrarian's pick: late September into October for shoulder-season value at this adults-only resort.
Sustainability, the numbers
The Aitken Spence sustainability programme covers the basics at the Prestige level: energy efficiency, waste segregation, and marine stewardship around the island.
The all-over-water layout keeps the footprint on the jetty and lagoon, and the small scale keeps the per-guest footprint below the area's larger resorts.
What is absent: a published, independently audited annual impact report of the kind Soneva produces.
For couples who want an adults-only premium all-inclusive with an all-over-water island, honeymoon couples who want the quickest arrival at this level, Adaaran regulars who want the premium tier of the range, and travellers who want a short, reliable transfer, Adaaran Prestige Vadoo is the right answer at South Malé's adults-only, all-over-water end. The 50 villas across Sunrise Water, Sunset Water, Honeymoon Water Villa, and Honeymoon Water Suite types, the three-restaurant dine-around all-inclusive plan, the Adaaran premium tier, and the 15-minute speedboat from Velana are the headline features. The Adaaran premium polish sitting below the area's ultra-luxury anchors, the lack of any beach villa, the focused dine-around rather than a big line-up, and the close-to-Velana feel rather than a secluded outer island are the honest trade-offs.

Frequently asked
- How does Adaaran Prestige Vadoo compare to its sister Adaaran Club Rannalhi?
- Both are Aitken Spence Adaaran resorts in South Malé, but at different tiers. Adaaran Club Rannalhi is the value tier: 130 villas, family-and-couples, mixed beach and water, opened in 1992, a 45-minute speedboat. Adaaran Prestige Vadoo is the premium tier: 50 villas, strictly adults-only, all over water, opened in 2009, a 15-minute speedboat (one of the quickest arrivals in the area). For a value, family all-inclusive, Rannalhi; for an adults-only over-water stay close to the airport, Vadoo. The two make an easy split-stay to compare tiers within one Adaaran trip.
- How does Adaaran Prestige Vadoo compare to OBLU SELECT Lobigili at North Malé?
- These are the two adults-only, all-over-water premium all-inclusives in the central atolls, run by different operators. Adaaran Prestige Vadoo (South Malé, 50 villas, Aitken Spence, opened 2009, a 15-minute speedboat) has a dine-around anchored by the standalone Japanese restaurant Kithajima. OBLU SELECT Lobigili (North Malé, 68 villas, Atmosphere Core Group, opened 2022, a 30-minute speedboat) has a four-venue line-up that includes the vegetarian-only JUST VEG. For Aitken Spence, the quickest arrival, and an older 2009 island, Vadoo; for Atmosphere, the JUST VEG vegetarian restaurant, and a newer 2022 build, Lobigili.
